SIDNEY – The Sidney Lady Raider and Red Raider basketball teams made it a clean sweep of McCook Saturday afternoon at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The Lady Raiders rolled over the Bison 64-26 while the Red Raiders handed McCook only their second loss of the season 52-44.

For one of the few times this season, the Lady Raiders’ opponent did not have a significant edge in size. Sidney took full advantage and kept the Bison off of the scoreboard for the first 4:32 of the game while bolting to a 9-0 lead. The Lady Raiders dissected the McCook’s zone defense, scoring 44 of their points in the paint and outrebounded the Bison 38-18. Sidney’s defense held the McCook to single-digit scoring in every quarter while continuing to build a lead.

Sidney had 11 players score, led by Karsyn Leeling and Reese Riddle each with 14 points. The Lady Raider junior varsity also recorded a win over McCook, 49-33. Ryan Dillehay led the Sidney reserves with 13 points.

Although the Red Raiders maintained a lead from the start, the entire boy’s game was a defensive battle. The first score of the game didn’t come until a Jaeden Dillehay jumper at 5:45 of the first quarter. While Sidney could not pull away in the game, they answered every McCook challenge. The Bison scored the final four points of the first half to send the teams to the locker rooms tied at 22. Sidney opened the second half with a Micah Schneider three pointer and even though the Bison closed to within one a couple of times, the Red Raiders retained their lead.

Sidney was led by Micah Schneider’s 16 points while Jaeden Dillehay added 12 points in the win. The Red Raider junior varsity got 20 points from freshman Keian Kaiser and 12 points from freshman Alek Doty to defeat McCook 52-37.
