SIDNEY -- The 2023 Cheyenne County Fair and Rodeo will include more events for children, including "mutton bustin'."

The Cheyenne County Fair Board met Monday night. The agenda included meeting with a Cervi Cattle Co. representative regarding the rodeo events.

In addition to rodeo stock, Cervi Cattle Co. will be providing for a mutton busting event. The event will likely have up to 12 contestants, according board discussion. Cervi Cattle Co. will provide the animals and helmets. There will also be weight and age restrictions. Board discussion favored ages 4 to 7.

Cervi Cattle Co. is also trying to broadcast the rodeo on The Cowboy Channel, and bring a big-screen reproduction to the Cheyenne County event.

The Fair Board is also considering a lawnmower race before the demolition derby.

The board also discussed options for a Friday Night Show. The discussion included if the board could contract with a performer who is considering a show in Cheyenne, Wyo., the night before, and how much to price tickets.

No contract has been signed, but the board is considering bringing Ned LeDoux to the 2023 Fair.

Also in the meeting, the board discussed bringing a beer garden to the Fair. The concept is for the Fair Board to contract with a third party. The vendor would pay a fee and a percent of sales to manage the beer garden. The proposal is expected to be brought before the Cheyenne County Commissioners on February 6.
