SIDNEY – The Sidney Middle School Auditorium came back to life as the Lady Raiders and Red Raiders hosted Chadron on a throwback Friday night. The varsity games returned to the venue that was home for the Sidney Maroons and then the Red Raiders until the new high school was built. The Lady Raiders survived a spirited challenge from the Cardinals 42-34 while the Red Raiders built a 15-point lead and ran out the game for a 72-60 win.

The first quarter of the girl’s game could not have been more balanced. Five Sidney players and five Chadron players all had one field goal each at the end of the period. Sidney led after one quarter 15-10 because Karsyn Leeing’s field goal was a three-pointer and Kayla Westby made four free throws.

Chadron outscored Sidney in the second and third quarters, but only by one point in each, to trim the Lady Raiders’ lead to 31-28 heading into the final period. Sidney made only two field goals in the fourth quarter, but connected on seven of their 12 free throws to put the game away. The win moves Sidney’s record to 20-1 on the season while Chadron falls to 9-13.
