Banner County's Reichenberg in Semis
OMAHA - The NSAA State Wrestling Championships got underway Thursday at the CHI Center in Omaha. Sidney two boys and two girls on the mats on Thursday. In Class B boys action Zech Roggasch, at 160 lbs., lost a 4-2 decision to Hayden Russman of Cozad in the first round. Roggasch will wrestle Cesar Linares from Crete in a first round consolation match.
At 285 lbs., Landon Hanes lost by fall to Owen Rowell of Auburn in the opening round. Hanes faces Orion Parker from Plattsmouth in the first round of consolations.
Several area wrestlers competed on Thursday in Class D. Banner County's lone wrestler at state is in the semifinals. Wyatt Reichenberg in the 182 lbs. weight class, won by fall over Jacob Henery of Neligh-Oakdale in the first round, then pinned Cameron Schulte from Thayer Central in the quarterfinals. Reichenberg, 30-5 on the season, will take on Brett Bridger of Fullerton, who's 23-2, in the semifinals tonight at 5:30 p.m. MT
Bridgeport had four wrestlers in action in Class D on Thursday. At 113 lbs. Bridgeport's Zach Jeffords lost to Carter Brandyberry of Alma by fall. He will face Angel Rodriguez of Cambridge, in a first round consolation match.
At 138 lbs., Chase McGrath of Bridgeport pinned Jacob Corbett of Cambridge in the first round but lost a 7-1 decision to Austin Mayfield of Burwell in the quarterfinals. He will me the winner of Keaton Dowse of Twin Loup and Paden Morava of Crawford, in a second-round consolation match.
Bridgeport’s Harrison Barnette at 145 lbs. won by fall over Jackson Huls of Meridian in the first round but fell by pin in the quarterfinals to Kelby Coufal from Aquinas Catholic. Barnette will meet the winner of Mitchell Kelly of Pender and Easton Messersmith of Maxwell in a second-round consolation match.
At 160 lbs. in Class D, Peyton Abbot of Bridgeport lost his opening match to J.D. Adam of Meridian in sudden victory. He will now take on Caden Coufal from Anselmo-Merna in a first round consolation match.
Kimball sent a trio of wrestlers to Omaha. Matthew Johnson at 106 lbs. won his first-round match by fall over Clayton Scoville of Sumner-Eddyville-Miller but lost a 6-2 decision in the quarterfinals to Aquinas Catholic's Grady Romshek. He now faces the winner between Dylan Kollmorgen of Hitchcock County and Colter Sinn from Thayer Central in a second-round consolation match.
Kimball's James McGinnis also won his first-round match at 132 lbs. by fall over Wryston Brell from Hi-Line. McGinnis moved into the semifinals with a 7-4 decision over Corbin Hoefer of Neligh-Oakdale. He will take on 49-0 Nickolas Kuehn of Kenesaw, in the semifinals.
Trey Schindler of Kimball is also in the semifinals at 152 lbs. He pinned Rafe Hill of Arapahoe in the opening round and then won a 2-1 decision over Jacob Koehn of Clarkson-Leigh. will match up with Tristan Smith from Elkhorn Valley in the semifinals.
In the girls results, Sidney's Jadyn Cottam won her first-round match at 105 lbs. over Tyonna Brown from Omaha North by pin. However, Cottam lost in the quarterfinals by fall to Carsyn Mcbride of Amherst. Cottom moves to a second-round match against the winner of Elaina Fletcher of Bellevue East and Myia Hofaker from Minden.
At 190 lbs., Saphira Whitley of Sidney lost her first-round match by fall to Tawny Irvin from Logan View. Whitley will take on Stephanie Donjuan Mendoza of Crete in a first-round consolation match.
Bridgeport had a pair of wrestlers competing on Thursday. Kyra Robbins fell in her first-round match at 120 lbs., losing by fall to Oliviana Medina of Ralston. Robbins now faces Isabelle Skrdla from Pierce in a first-round consolation match.
At 170 lbs. Bridgeport's Hayden Marks lost to Alexa Karch of Omaha Benson by pin in her opening round match. Marks takes on Aileen Rueda from Crete in the first round of consolations.
