SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (KNEP) - The Board of Commissioners voted to approve a memorandum of understanding for a proposed casino and horse racetrack during its meeting.

The proposed casino and horse race track, if approved by the Nebraska Gaming Commission, would be built south of Gering. The board voted to approve the memorandum after they received a presentation from Omaha attorney Brain Jorge. The presentation highlighted what much of the economic benefit that a casino could bring into the area.

“Scotts Bluff County has more access to employment and we think better opportunities to pull interest and out of state dollars,” Jorge said during the presentation to the board.

The state legislature is currently discussing LB148 which would allow two proposals for casinos and horse racing tracks west of the 100th Meridian. These proposals would be between Lincoln and Keith counties, or Scotts Bluff and Kimball counties.

LB148 will go through public hearing starting on March 13. If people have questions about the agreement they can contact the Scotts Bluff county offices at 308-436-6670.
