SIDNEY -- "Whatever Rotary may mean to us, to the world it will be known by the results it achieves."  -- Paul Harris, Rotary founder.

The Rotary Club is making a return to Sidney and Cheyenne County. A meeting was held at Western Nebraska Community College in Sidney recently to organize a new Rotary Club. The fledgling club, starting with 10-12 interested members, has a vision of the local club having county-wide, and beyond, impact.

The members settled on the name Cheyenne County Rotary Club. The initial officers are President: Toshia Jones, President-Elect: Forrest Hershberger, Treasurer: Jamie Bright and Secretary: Kendra Mitchell.

The next meeting of the Cheyenne County Rotary Club is scheduled for 3 p.m. Monday, May 1, at Beans and Steams Coffee House. The Rotary Club is looking for people of action who are willing to become members to help form the club.

"We are a new Rotary Club in Cheyenne County, Neb., and we would love to welcome anyone in our county to join us in making a difference locally and internationally," said Cheyenne County Rotary Club President Toshia Jones.

The Rotary Club traces its history to Chicago attorney Paul Harris in 1905.  According to the Rotary International website, the club started with Harris  seeking an organization of professionals with diverse backgrounds where there could be exchanges of ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. As time went on, Rotary's vision developed into humanitarian service. Rotary is involved in local community projects and global projects such as water systems, polio vaccinations and anti-bullying campaigns.

Rotary is made up of three parts: local clubs, Rotary International, and The Rotary Foundation. Together, Rotary works to make lasting changes in communities and around the world. One of the slogans Rotary is known for is The Four-Way Test: "Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?"
