Pam Hayden has served Kimball Public Schools for 39 years. As the last day of classes in the 2022-2023 school year came to a close Tuesday, Pam called it a career. She was honored by Superintendent Trevor Anderson and Principal Amanda Culek during the elementary school awards and talent assembly Tuesday morning.
"My husband retired in November and said I should retire in December, but I just couldn't leave them hanging," Hayden said of the people in the district she has served since 1984. While now was the time to retire, Hayden is still working on her retirement plans. "My husband wants to travel but I'm not a big traveler so we'll play it by ear."
Soon, Hayden's oldest child will be living in Seward, Nebraska and her youngest in Evanston, Wyoming so she hopes to be here in Kimball at a good "half-way" point to get the family together. She hopes with the weather the kids will be able to be home for holidays.
"The people I've worked with have been absolutely wonderful," Hayden said recalling the good times she had in her career. She also speaks very highly of the students and said they have been great, quickly adding, "For the most-part."
Hayden has served five principals in her time as a paraprofessional. All at Mary Lynch Elementary to spite the fact that Hayden herself is a West Elementary grad. The two most recent principals, Mrs. Soper and Mrs. Culek were actually students in the third grade class where Hayden was a paraprofessional.
