BAYARD -- While singers and poets reference keeping time in a bottle, the community of Bayard decided to keep 50 years in a capsule.

The community of Bayard is nearing 50 years since it decided to collect its own history. On June 9, the time capsule buried in 1973 will be opened before the public.

The 1973 time capsule will be opened a 6 p.m. June 9. The event will include a movie in the park after the opening.

The 1973 time capsule was organized by the City Council.

Organizers are seeking items to put in the time capsule for the next 50 years. The City is also seeking options for the size of a new time capsule as well as what to put in it. Content should represent the Bayard community of 2023 for the future.
