The City of Kimball announced on Wednesday that the city will be closed in observance of Juneteenth. City offices along with the landfill and library will be closed on Monday, June 19th.

Juneteenth recognizes the day the final slaves were actually freed in Galveston, Texas two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln.

In 2021, Juneteenth became a federal holiday. This will be the second year city offices are closed in the City of Kimball according to city clerk Paula Tarango.
