A quick forming severe thunderstorm caused trouble in eastern Wyoming and the Nebraska panhandle Monday night. On a day where no rain was even forecast, one severe thunderstorm shook communities from Albin to Bushnell to Kimball and continued into Logan County Colorado, sparking tornado warnings there before losing strength.
Softball sized hail was reported on I-80 west of Kimball, while Bushnell took on tennis ball sized hail, smashing windshields and causing power outages. A tornado briefly touched down south of Kimball, no damage has been reported due to narrow and fast moving twister.
Damage estimates will need to be done after sunrise, however residents of Laramie, Banner, Kimball, Cheyenne and Logan counties can expect wind damage and significant hail damage.
The effects the storm took on crops in the area may be felt for the rest of the season. Until now farmers in the area had considered themselves lucky, taking on a number of soaking rains but no hail.
