Deuel County asks 'What's Cookin' at the Fair?'

2023 Deuel County Fair closes with packed days of celebrating rural life, entertainment.

CHAPPELL -- Deuel County's three-day fair was packed from 9 a.m. Wednesday, August 9 to midnight Saturday, August 12.

The schedule started with 4-H Exhibit Hall entries and interviewing 9 a.m. to noon , followed by the 4-H Trap Shoot at 6 p.m.

The Beef Weigh-In started 7 a.m. Thursday, followed by the Swine/Goat/Sheep Weigh-In starting at 9 a.m., and Poultry and Rabbit Check-In. Evening events included a free grandstand show, crowning of the 2023 King and Queen, local talent, cheerleaders and dance groups, followed by opening of the beer garden featuring BS Entertainment.

Friday started early with a pancake feed offered 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. by Pancake Man. The 4-H/FFA Market swine/goat/lamb  show judging and showmanship took place at 8 a.m. with the Round Robin showmanship following. 

Friday also included kids games, "Axe Kickers" ax throwing, and Rorring Entertainment in the Community Hall. The Lions Club offered Rocky Mountain Oysters and shrimp prior to a show by Phil Dalton Illusions. 

Saturday included more kids games, Mid Nebraska Pedal Pullers pedal tractor pull, the 4-H/FFA livestock sale and the Richard Paulsen Memorial Ranch Rodeo.
