PROCTOR, Colo. -- The Caliche volleyball team is hard at work preparing for the 2023 fall season

"This is my first year as the high school coach here at Caliche. I'm excited to start the season," said Amber Girdler.

She said she has been working hard this summer and a strong team to start the season.

"We have a good group of seniors coming in that bring a lot of good leadership, some new underclassmen that are going to bring some more dynamics to the group. We also have a good set of juniors, and sophomores. They have some court time experience. They're excited to step out on the court as well," Coach Girdler said.

Caliche isn't expecting any easy wins this year. Competition will be on every court throughout the region.

"We have a really tough league. We have the Merino Rams who have been down at the state tournament, winning it the last few years. We also have Sedgwick County who is in our league as well. They are state champions as well. We have Wiggins and Wray and Holyoke and Haxtun and Yuma. So, we have a very competitive schedule, and some good volleyball games ahead of us," she said.

On August 18, the Caliche Lady Buffs will host a Gatorade/Powerade challenge against the Peetz Bulldogs starting at 4 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring Gatorade, Powerade or bottled water in support of the team.

The Lady Buffs then travel to Lonestar August 24 for a 5 p.m. match.
