SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County Commissioners this morning approved the purchase of two new vehicles for the sheriff's department.

Sheriff Adam Frerichs earlier approached the commissioners about replacing two vehicles in the sheriff's department fleet. Options considered included a Ford F150 pickup truck, Chevrolet Tahoe, and Ford Expedition. The challenge initially was availability and price. The commissioners and Frerichs also expressed concern about a pickup and securely carrying equipment, and stable driving.

Frerichs met with the commissioners this morning with options of a Ford Explorer Interceptor, Ford Expedition or F150 pickup 4-door with a police package. The pickups are through a Nelson Auto Center in Fergus Falls, Minn.

The two 2023 F150 pickups will cost $96,879. Frerichs said they are on the lot and will be delivered to Sidney.

"They bring them to our doorstep," Frerichs said.

Once the pickups arrive in Sidney, they will be custom-fitted for use by the sheriff's department.

Commissioner Randy Miller said the new pickups will be purchased with ARPA funds.
