Eagles notes: Chadron State visits Highlands Saturday

The Chadron State College football team will be seeking its third win in four games Saturday, when it visits New Mexico Highlands for a noon kickoff.

CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College football team will be seeking its third win in four games Saturday, when it visits New Mexico Highlands for a noon kickoff.
             
The Eagles are 3-5 for the season and 2-4 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.  The Highlands Cowboys are 2-6 and 1-5.
             
Highlands opened the season by splitting games with its New Mexico rivals.  Eastern New Mexico edged them 28-26, but the Cowboys defeated Western New Mexico 48-42.
             
The Cowboys also beat Fort Lewis 31-17 in their third game, but have lost five straight conference games since then. The setbacks were to South Dakota Mines 42-17, Adams State 21-14, Black Hills State 34-24, CSU-Pueblo 56-7 and Western Colorado 62-0 last Saturday.
             
The undefeated Mountaineers, who are tangling with No. 1 ranked Colorado Mines in Golden on Saturday, out-yarded Highlands 467 to 131. The Cowboys managed just 63 yards rushing and 68 passing.
              
After the trip to Las Vegas, the Eagles will play at Colorado Mesa in Grand Junction next Saturday, Nov. 4 before wrapping up the season at home on Saturday, Nov. 11 by meeting South Dakota Mines.

Eagles in Alamosa for RMAC Pod

CHADRON, Neb. -- The Chadron State College volleyball team will have two non-conference contests this weekend in Alamosa, Colorado when they play New Mexico Highlands on Friday and Adams State on Saturday.
 
The Eagles, who are 11-9 overall and 5-5 in conference play, swept the Grizzlies on October 14. It will be the first matchup of the season between CSC and the Cowgirls.
 
The Cowgirls are 3-19 overall and 1-9 in conference play, the lone conference victory occurring against Black Hills State.
 
Terayah Stukes and Keegan Lopez both lead Highlands with 282 and 215 kills apiece. Stukes leads the team with an average of 2.91 kills per set while Lopez has a team high attack percentage of .242.
 
Soleil Gandara has a team high 858 assists, an average of 9.03 per set.
 
Elena Rivera leads the Cowgirls defensively with 413 digs, an average of 4.26. Layla Hooks and Keegan Lopez both have over 50 blocks, recording 61 and 53 respectively.
 
Two weeks again when CSC swept the Grizzlies, CSC outhit Adams State .264 to .127 in the victory.
 
Kally Kirkwood, a freshman from Fleming, Colorado, had a match high 15 kills and hit .500, both career highs. Mayson Fago, a senior from Evans, Colorado, added 12 kills.
 
Kally's sister, Kendyl Kirkwood, a junior also from Fleming, had a match high 43 assists, an average of 14.33 per set, a new season high.
 
Alondra Hernandez, a junior from Provo, Utah had a match high 17 digs. Lexi Hurtado, a graduate student from Aurora, Colorado and Rylee Greiman, a graduate student from Windsor, Colorado, added 15 and 10 digs, respectively.
 
Kally Kirkwood and Bella Adams, a sophomore from Pueblo, Colorado, each had three blocks in the victory.
 
Both matches begin at 6 p.m.
