SIDNEY -- The Cheyenne County commissioners this morning approved funding classes for road and bridge workers needing a CDL.

Highway Superintendent Doug Hart said he has two employees who need CDL licensing.

"I do have two people. They don't have CDLs, but one of them has taken everything. The only thing he has to do is basically the class that you have to do now. WNCC in Scottsbluff is thinking about having somebody coming down for the Class B. It will take about four days or so, depending on the knowledge of the driver," Hart said.

The required classes cost $1,300, according to Hart. He said if a person has driven before and has knowledge of a truck, the classes should go fairly quickly. The two employees discussed have already taken the CDL test, Hart said.

Commissioner Randy Miller said the classes should make them better employees.

"I personally believe that it's going to make them a better employee. It actually in my opinion comes under the category of training, and whatever we can do to train our individuals to make them better employees we should be responsible for the financial part of it," Miller said.

Hart said he expects classes to take place some time in February.
