Firefighters respond to New Year's Eve structure fire

Sterling, Merino, Peetz and Fleming firefighters responded to a structure fire in the Padroni area December 31.

PADRONI, Colo. -- At 10 p.m. on New Years Eve, Sterling Fire Department's Station 1 was dispatched to a possible out of control burn in Padroni. 

Shortly after crews were enroute, a second caller reported a shed on fire in the backyard. The fire was visible from CHS Cooperative in Sterling. 

Upon arrival crews found a small garage with heavy fire that had spread to a nearby motor home and trees. Crews deployed multiple attack lines and got a quick knock on the fire. 

An additional crew searched the RV and found no victims. The fire was extinguished and overhaul completed at 2330. 

Units responding included Engine 10, Medic 3, Tender 16, Tender 65, Tender 47, and Logan County Sheriff's Office - Colorado. Crews from Merino Volunteer Fire Department moved up to cover station 1. Peetz Fire/Rescue and Fleming Volunteer Fire Department also responded.
