Authorities respond to report of threats at Leyton school

Cheyenne County deputies responded to a report of a Leyton Schools student making threats against a school recently.

DALTON -- Law enforcement responded to a report at Leyton High School at 4:33 p.m. January 18 about a student who made threats to the school.

The call came in of a student who made a threat to shoot up Leyton High School. A threat was also allegedly made against the student who reported the threat. The threatening student is not allowed in Leyton schools at this time. 

The student is not identified because of the student's age. 

Cheyenne County Sheriff Adam Frerichs said at this time there is no immediate threat to the schools or the community. He said according to the parents the student does not have access to firearms. He added officials have had contact with the student previously.

Law enforcement interviewed staff and students; parents of the student were present for some of the interviews.

The student is not allowed back into Leyton schools at this time.
