SIDNEY - The National Weather Service in Cheyenne calls the next winter storm system forecast to hit the southern Nebraska Panhandle this weekend "tricky."
The NWS says heavy snow is possible Friday night through Saturday for Cheyenne, Kimball, Banner, Morrill and Laramie Counties, who are all in a winter storm watch until 11 p.m. Saturday night. However, inconsistent model guidance has led the weather service not to issue a winter storm warning for now. They'll review the next model run and make a decision later Friday.
As of Friday morning, Sidney, Harrisburg, Pine Bluffs, Kimball, and Bridgeport could get four to eight inches of snow. Lesser amounts of one to three inches are expected north and west of the watch area.
Weatherology Meteorologist Mike Karow joined Hunter Arterburn on 987 The Big Boy and Cheyenne County Country Friday morning to discuss the snow possibilities through the Super Bowl weekend and how much it will help Sonny's Super Snow Mountain the corner of 10th Ave and Toledo Street in Sidney.
