SIDNEY - The All-Class gold medalist in the Girl’s 100 Meter Hurdles at last spring’s NSAA State Track and Field Championships is going to be a Maverik. Sidney’s Chloe Ahrens signed a National Letter-of-Intent on February 14th to compete in Track and Field at the University of Nebraska – Omaha.

Ahrens took gold in both the Class B 100 Meter Hurdles in a time of 14.78 and the 300 Meter Hurdles in a time of 45.13 at last year’s state meet at Omaha Burke High School. Her time in the 100 Meter Hurdles was the fastest overall at the state meet. She was also part of Sidney’s state qualifying 4x100 Meter and 4x400 Meter, Relay teams.

Through the selection process, Ahrens looked at a few other schools, “I looked at Doane, Kearney, Nebraska Wesleyan, and those were kind of my top picks, but UNO stood out to me the most.”

She said it wasn’t just one thing that stood out to her in Omaha.

“Well, UNO had reached out to me at the end of the track season last year and I kind of didn't expect anything like that cause obviously it's division one. I took a visit there, I left and my eyes were just like wide open. It was a huge eye opener for me. I enjoyed the campus. I enjoyed the people. I enjoyed their coach. Unfortunately, when I did leave though, I was like, there's no way I'm going to be going to that school and it just kept on my mind. And I was like, you know, it felt right. So therefore I'm going to UNO.”

Ahrens still has her senior track season yet to go this spring. But that will have to wait until the Lady Raiders are done with a stellar 2023-2024 basketball campaign.
