FORT MORGAN, Colo. --On April 19, a Fort Morgan Police Department officer attempted to contact a vehicle for a minor speeding violation in the 1000 block of Main Street.

The vehicle, a black Honda Accord, stopped in the 100 block of West 7th Avenue after the officer initiated the stop. The driver of the vehicle, Jason Ramirez-Martinez, 20, of Fort Morgan continued to look for his insurance information, the officer was able to see several marijuana containers, with broken seals, that appeared to be purchased from a dispensary.

As the officer continued the investigation, Ramirez-Martinez was asked to exit the vehicle at which time he started the car and drove away at a high speed. The officer contacted other officers by radio, informing them of the situation, as he turned south onto Ensign Street, leaving behind evidence as he drove away.
 
At about 1:48 pm, officers were called to a traffic accident at the intersection of Deuel Street and Railroad Avenue. On scene, officers found that the same black Honda had struck another vehicle, causing extensive damage to both vehicles and minor injury to the other driver.
 
Ramirez-Martinez was outside of the vehicle and was arrested by officers on charges of Vehicular Eluding (Felony), Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Reckless Driving, Open Container of Marijuana in Vehicle, and Illegal Possession/Consumption of Marijuana by an Underage Person.
 
He was held without bond until being advised by a judge.
