SIDNEY - Large hail and damaging winds will be the main concerns in any severe thunderstorms that develop Sunday afternoon, especially near and west of Highway 83, according to the National Weather Service office.

The NWS issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the entire Nebraska panhandle, including Cheyenne, Kimball, Banner, Scotts Bluff, Box Butte, Morrill, Garden and Deuel Counties. The watch, which is in effect until 8 p.m., also includes Logan and Sedgwick Counties in northeast Colorado.

Storms are anticipated to develop in the Nebraska panhandle and then spread through the Sandhills through the evening.

Another storm system arrives later Monday and continues into Tuesday, according to the weather service. A few storms may be strong or severe with hail and wind, although the biggest concern is heavy rain. Widespread significant moisture totals of 1 to 2 inches with some spots possibly approaching 3 inches are possible.

While serious flooding is not anticipated, localized flash flooding, lowland flooding, and rises on area streams and rivers are all possible.
