It is with immense sadness, that we announce the passing of Richard Valgene Borchert, age 90, of Sidney, Nebraska, on Tuesday, October 15, 2024. Richard was at home, surrounded by his family, that loves him so much.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, October 21, 2024 at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Sidney with Father C.P. Varghese officiating. A Rosary Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. prior to the mass. Burial will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney, NE.
Friends may stop at the Gehrig-Stitt Funeral Home to sign Dick’s register book and leave condolences for the family. There will not be a formal public visitation at the funeral home.
Services will be livestreamed on the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel Facebook page and recorded for later viewing on our website. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department.

Richard was born on October 31, 1933, to Wilber William and Hattie Jayne Borchert (Morrison) in Wray, CO. Richard graduated from Benkleman High School and then went on to study at Kearney State University. Richard met the love of his life, Judi Helen Krueger, and they were married in 1957. They had 6 children. Richard was known for his unwavering love and support for his family- they were always his priority. Richard was kind, giving, and had a huge heart. One of Richard's key traits, was his wonderful sense of humor and wit. His smile and laugh were contagious.
Richard was owner and operator of Diamond B Oil for the last 67 years. His love for the oil business inspired him to go to the office every day, up until his passing. To say that Richard will be missed, is a great understatement. He will live in our hearts forever.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving son, Richard James (Jim), and his parents, Wilber and Hattie Borchert.
Richard is survived by wife Judi, daughter Tammy Temple, son Mike (Lori), daughter Roxie Altizer (Dennis), son Sean, daughter Monica Olson (special friend Coach). Grandchildren- Dillon, Cody, Lindsey, Chrissy, Christina, Stephanie, Brian, Justin, Zach, Caiti, and Casey. 9 great-grandchildren.
