SIDNEY - The Sidney Police Department will be carrying out training operations at the North Elementary School throughout November. The school is no longer a part of the school system in Sidney.
According to a letter from Interim Chief of Police Sam Lovato, these exercises will allow officers to simulate a range of scenarios, from basic tactics to complex emergency situations, to enhance officer skills and emergency response capabilities.
The goal of these trainings is to improve response times and overall effectiveness, benefiting the Sidney community. Throughout the month, residents may see an increased presence of law enforcement vehicles from the Sidney and Kimball PDs, Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, as well as resources from emergency medical services and fire departments.
As part of the training, officers will use non-lethal training firearms and simulated threats. Chief Lovato emphasized that these activities are solely for training purposes and assure the public that they pose no threat to community safety.
“We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to maintain the highest standards of public safety,” Lovato said, thanking the Sidney Public School District for providing access to North Elementary for these exercises.
