KIMBALL -- Fundraising is in full swing for the Kimball high school trip to Greece.

Twenty-six students are signed up for a 9-day trip to Greece that will be in the summer of 2026.

Kimball High School Social Studies Teacher Matthew Shoup decided to plan the trip for students to offer a fun experience while learning about another culture first-hand.

“It will be a neat experience for the kids to help grow and gain some character by doing that kind of traveling,” Shoup said. “We’re so concerned about our little bubble that we’re in, but there is such a big world out there to see.”

Shoup hopes to plan international trips for the students every few years.

The estimated cost of the trip for everyone would be $115,000, which comes out to between $4,000 and $5,000 per student.

The students have already started paying for the trip, so the hope is to get as much fundraising as possible over the next year and a half to help lower the cost for the students.

They organized the first fundraiser a couple of weeks ago that followed the Parade of Lights, which raised $1,600.

Today is the start of the fundraising that the students will do during the basketball season. They will be at every home game running a raffle and possibly selling food.

Tonight, they will be serving Walking Tacos at Kimball Jr./Sr. High School, as well as running a 50/50 raffle.

Shoup said they plan to host fundraisers through the track and golf season in the spring as well.

“This is a really exciting opportunity for the students, everyone is excited, and the parents are getting very involved,” Shoup said. “The community has also been excited for us and supportive in giving ideas for fundraisers.”

They plan to organize larger fundraisers during the summer that will include a Greek Festival, raffles, and silents auctions that local businesses have already offered to donate items for.
