JULESBURG, Colo. - Authorities are urging drivers to use extreme caution on roadways in Sedgwick County as ice-covered roads have led to multiple rollover crashes on Interstate 76.

The Sedgwick County Sheriff's Office reported Saturday morning icy conditions, including black ice, have made travel hazardous between mile markers 178 and 181. Emergency responders, including the Colorado State Patrol, Sedgwick County Ambulance and local fire services, have been dispatched to several accidents in the area.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) has responded to treat the roadways with ice melt. Drivers are reminded to slow down, maintain safe speeds, and move to the furthest lane open when approaching crash scenes to protect responders and other motorists.

The deteriorating road conditions are a common theme across northeast Colorado, southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle as a winter weather advisory goes into effect at 5 p.m. Saturday. Roads across the region were partially to completely covered in ice Saturday morning.
