Fire at JBS Swift in Grand Island caused by malfunction

The Grand Island Fire Department has determined that a fire at the JBS Swift beef plant Tuesday night was caused by a mechanical malfunction.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Grand Island Fire Department has determined that a fire at the JBS Swift beef plant Tuesday night was caused by a mechanical malfunction.

Six crews, including two ambulances, were dispatched to the plant at 10:30 p.m. and the last unit left around midnight.

According to GIFD, the fire was inside the plant in it’s “bone dryer,” which removes waste products, and the damage was only in that area.

No injuries were reported.
