Gehrig-Stitt Chapel & Cremation Service, LLC is in charge of Val’s care and funeral arrangements. Val Daniel Peters was born on November 5, 1956, the youngest son of Alfred and Hazel Peters. Val grew up with his two sisters and brother on a farm North of Lodgepole, Nebraska. The baby of the family was a mischievous young boy who could charm his way out of punishment for his many escapades. He was known to hitch a ride on the binder being pulled by his Uncle Clyde in a field nearby, which got both Val and his uncle in trouble with Val’s mother several times. He attended Rural School District 68 (Sunnyside) until the family moved to Sidney, Nebraska when he was in second grade. He then attended Central Elementary, and Sidney Junior and High Schools.
While in High School Val participated in the Band, playing the trombone. He very much enjoyed the Sidney Band trip to Florida to march in the Orange Bowl Parade, which included getting to watch his beloved Huskers beat Alabama 38-6. Val was also very active in Boy Scouts, achieving the highest rank of Eagle Scout. Following High School, Val worked alongside his father in construction/carpentry for several years. He loved riding his motorcycle, including several summer vacation rides to Sturges with family and friends. He cared for his father for several years but loved living in Sidney and had no desire to be elsewhere.
Val loved and enjoyed staying in touch with family across the country with frequent phone calls. He was a storyteller, a historian, and had an amazing memory. He always had funny observations or jokes to tell. He would befriend anyone he met, old or young, usually leaving them smiling or laughing. There was never a dull moment when Val was around.
He is survived by a brother, Kim Peters (Kay) of Falmouth, Michigan, and a sister, Kerry Krauter (Lawrence) of Phoenix, Arizona; four nephews, including Jeffrey Krauter of Phoenix, AZ, Jeremy Krauter (Karen) of Chandler, AZ, Forrest Peters (Rachel) of Lander, Wyoming, and Eric Arnold (Beckah) of Siloam Springs, Arkansas; and four nieces, including Jolene Skeen (Daniel) of Atwater, California, Diana Peters of Molalla, Oregon, Karena Gregory of Cheyenne, Wyoming, and Michelle Raney of Siloam Springs, Arkansas. Survivors also include 8 great-nephews and 7 great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by both parents, a sister, and a nephew.
