Colorado Flatlanders Rod Run in 33rd year
The 2025 Colorado Flatlanders Rod Run in Sterling, Colo., displayed everything from the vintage to the unique. Proceeds from the event support scholarships for students entering the Auto and Diesel programs at NJC.
STERLING, Colo. -- Sterling's Pioneer Park was overtaken with a display of cars and trucks in the 33rd Colorado Flatlanders Rod Run.
The three-day event is hosted by the Colorado Flatlanders Car Club in Sterling. Vehicles varied from the vintage to the unique and many in between.
Colorado Flatlanders Car Club's Cherie Brungardt talked about the history of the club and the excitement of the event.
"My role in the Colorado Flatlanders is I'm the president. This is our 33rd annual Rod Run," Brungardt said.
The annual event is held in Pioneer Park in Sterling.
"We are in Pioneer Park in Sterling. The City of Sterling is a huge sponsor to our Rod Run every year. We have 250 cars in the park today," she said.
Today is day-two of the three-day event with an awards ceremony Sunday morning.
"We welcome everybody to come out and enjoy it in the park. Spectators can get in for a $3 fee. You see everything from a brand new Corvette to a early 1900s vehicle," Brungardt said.
Sunday morning concludes the event with the Poker Run at 8:30 a.m. followed by the awards ceremony at 11 a.m.
The Colorado Flatlanders Car Club started as a group of people with a common interest.
"The Flatlanders started in 1991 in Sterling. There was a group of random people that wanted to get together and our common thing was cars. We all love cars. It doesn't even mean you have to own an old car. You just ... we love cars," she said.
The Flatlanders also raise money for its scholarship program. Scholarships are awarded to students to attend Northeastern Junior College's Auto and Diesel program. The Colorado Flatlanders give out two to four scholarships each year, depending on available funding.
