SIDNEY, Neb. — A Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) train blocked multiple railroad crossings in Sidney due to an equipment malfunction, according to Sidney Police Chief Sam Lovato.

The train reportedly broke down late Monday morning, halting traffic at the 10th Avenue, 13th Avenue and 15th Avenue crossings. The train crew on scene informed authorities they were attempting to locate an air leak.

As of 11:50 a.m., the City of Sidney announced the issue on the train was fixed and it was moving again.

Drivers in the area were encouraged to use alternative routes, including Fort Sidney Road and Link 17J.

BNSF has not yet issued an official statement regarding the malfunction.
