WEEPING WATER – The taste of cookies and chocolate and a passion for showrings highlighted the Cass County Fair’s Friday afternoon.

Madden Vogt of Elmwood enjoyed his fourth year in a row winning beef showmanship.

Vogt: “It was a fun day showing. It was hot, sweated a lot, but it was fun.”
The intermediate champion said hard work and passion are key to showmanship.

Vogt: “Just have fun. If it’s your passion, pursue it.”

Cass County Sheriff’s Deputy Wes Tuttle was recruited from the DARE booth in the exhibition hall to judge the cookie contest. He is now the sheriff’s office most notable cookie taster.

Tuttle: “The adult one, the sour cream and lemon one we choose – I’m a sucker for a good lemon bar too. The other cookies were good, don’t get me wrong,  but is was just kind of over the top.”

Cookie Judge Evelyn Hans said she had never had a sour cream cookie before.

Hans: “But they were all so good that I will now add sour cream to my cookies.”

Kortlyn Gulizia of Louisville was the winner of the Bakers Candies eating contest. She consumed 15 mint chocolates first in a declared tie with Kaizlee Roeber.
