Creek Valley bus driver honored with NSAA Above and Beyond Award
Creek Valley’s Wendy Burgman has been honored with the NSAA Above and Beyond Award for her creativity and dedication as a school bus driver.
CHAPPELL, Neb. — A Creek Valley Public Schools bus driver known for her dedication, creativity, and service to students has been recognized by the Nebraska School Activities Association with its Above and Beyond Award.
The NSAA announced Tuesday that Wendy Burgman is this week’s honoree, praising her commitment to students and the broader Creek Valley community.
Though her primary role is behind the wheel, Burgman is widely known for stepping in wherever help is needed — from working concessions and child care to mowing school grounds. She also conducts twice-yearly bus evacuation drills, enforces clear safety expectations, and maintains diligent pre- and post-trip inspections, according to the association.
Burgman has also earned a reputation for turning routine rides into memorable experiences. At the start of the school year, she transforms her bus into a “Magic School Bus,” dressing as Ms. Frizzle. During the holiday season, she decorates the entire bus with lights, music, and festive displays.
“Wendy isn’t just going the extra mile — she’s paving the road with joy, dedication and heart,” a press release said.
Beyond her work, Burgman is a fixture at Creek Valley events, cheering on students and supporting programs throughout the year.
