The Lady Longhorns of Kimball are 1 and 1 after a Tuesday evening win at Leyton High School.
Following a two set sweep by Kimball in the JV match-up, expectations were high for the lady longhorns and they entered a varsity match-up against a Leyton team that lost only one match last year. Leyton made each set tough, and even led for much of the third set but Kimball prevailed.
The first set saw both teams struggle early with over 10 lead changes in the set. Addi Olsen and Clarika Hottell led Kimball in kills as Kimball pulled away and eventually won the set 25-22.
The second set was not as close as it featured a 12 point run by Kimball with Jade O'Rourke serving. That got the longhorns to 20 points and the gap was too large for the warriors to close. The longhorns took the set 25-9.
The warriors fought back in the third set and while it also saw a number of lead changes, Leyton stayed out in front or very close to the longhorns for much of the game. They even tied the set at 24 before Kimball won the set 26-24.
