NORTH PLATTE, Neb. (KNOP) - The McCook Work Ethic Camp is slated to be repurposed to house ICE detainees as part of a new partnership between the state and federal government.

While the decision has sparked debate across the state and prompted calls for a legislative hearing from some lawmakers, not all voices have pushed back.

Nebraska State Senator Dave Murman, who represents McCook, has not raised any objections, instead expressing confidence.

“Well, my initial thought was that we do have a broken immigration system. Nebraskans, especially Nebraskans in rural Nebraska, do want to do their part to make sure our country is safe and we do not have people coming in unvetted,” Sen. Murman said. “I trust the leadership of both our President and our Governor, and even down to the local authorities.”
