KIMBALL -- This weekend is the 99th Annual Kimball Farmer’s Day celebration that will include several fundraisers put on by the Kimball Library to support their programs.

The library will be bustling with the Silent Auction, Bake Sale, Book Sale, and Craft Fair that will be open Friday from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

There will also be a giant chess game set up on the back lawn of the library from 12 – 1 on Saturday.

The Salsa Contest will be open from 10:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. on Saturday where community members can pay $2 to taste test the entries and vote for their favorite one.

Each salsa entry is anonymous, so no one knows which entry belongs to who. The one with the most votes wins.

The Pie a City Guy event will be downtown at the stage at 2 p.m. on Saturday where three out of seven volunteers will have pies smashed in their faces.

Anyone can buy a raffle ticket at the library for $2, and the three winners get to pick a volunteer from the list to smash a pie in their face.

The volunteers are Aaron Abraham, City Administrator Annette Brower, Connor Cluff from Friends of the Goodhand, Library Director Amber Sweetland, 104.3 KIMB’s Jay Allen, and City Clerk Paula Tarango.

The library has also partnered with the Farmer’s Day Committee and Goodhand Theater to host the annual Mario Kart Tournament at the Goodhand Theater from noon – 3 p.m.

The event is geared toward youth, but anyone can participate. The two leagues are amateur or professional, but adults are required to enter in the professional league. Players compete to be the fastest one to finish the course.

“It’s simple, it’s fun, and it’s just an addition to the awesome kids' events were planning,” said Library Director Amber Sweetland. “All these different things we do is to make sure we have something for everybody.”

Sweetland emphasizes that the library is only able to run their extra programs and events throughout the year by hosting fundraisers.

“The reason we work so hard for Farmer’s Day is to make sure the kids have their programs, so they can have decent snacks after school, so we can do extra for the community,” Sweetland said. “We're all willing to put in the effort to do it because this is what we love.”

Sweetland adds that she is grateful for the tremendous support from local businesses and community members.
