Possible gas leak prompts evacuation at Chadron Motor Company

Emergency crews evacuated Chadron Motor Company Tuesday morning after a possible natural gas leak was reported, but Black Hills Energy determined the building was safe and business resumed within about 30 minutes.

CHADRON, Neb. — Chadron Police and Chadron Fire Department personnel responded to a report of a possible natural gas leak at Chadron Motor Company late Tuesday morning, prompting a temporary evacuation of the business.

According to the Chadron Police Department, officers and firefighters were dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:50 a.m. As a precaution, the building was evacuated while the situation was assessed.

Black Hills Energy responded and conducted an evaluation of the property. After about 30 minutes, officials determined the area was safe, and normal business operations were allowed to resume.

No injuries were reported, and no further issues were identified.

Police officials thanked the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department and Black Hills Energy for their quick response, as well as employees at Chadron Motor Company for promptly evacuating the building and contacting emergency services.
