After stating that Kimball's Main Street Market would cease operation under their control on January 31st, Legacy Coop has decided to reverse course and keep the store open for the time being.
To spite the departure last week of long-time store manager Troy Harper, Kimball's only full-service grocery store, remains open regular hours with interim management.
Legacy Coop leadership announced in December that the market was losing over $400,000 a year for the Coop and maintaining a robust retirement program for the team had become impossible. They decided to sell the store and its inventory.
Legacy was immediately contacted by as many as six different potential buyers and buyer groups. One such group was a locally organized Coop that went by the wayside when it became evident other buyers would be able to organize more quickly. Rumors have spread throughout the panhandle about who may still be in the running to become the next owner and operator of the market however no official announcements have been made.
Employees view it as a positive sign that Legacy has kept the store open beyond its originally announced closure date of January 31st. For now, a new closure date has not been announced.
