CHAPPELL, Neb. — A quick start by Minatare gave the Indians a 26-0 win over Creek Valley on Friday night in Chappell.

An early first quarter touchdown and a stifling defense led the Indians. Minatare limited the Storm to just two first-quarter first downs.

A punt return TD by Dionicio Hernandez, followed by a conversion kick, extended Minatare's lead to 14-0 at the start of the second quarter.

Creek Valley had possession of the ball with 15 seconds left in the first half and freshman quarterback Zander Polk threw a pass that was picked off by Minatare freshman Tayson Pedotto. Pedotto sailed down the field for the touchdown, making the halftime score 20 to 0.

Minatare had a rough start to the second half of the game and fumbled the kickoff, which was picked up by the Storm five yards from the goal line.

The Indians put together a strong goal-line stand, however, keeping the Storm out of the end zone.

Creek Valley’s defense turned up their game after halftime and kept Minatare from scoring in the third quarter. Both teams had multiple fumbles and penalties, leading to a scoreless third frame.

In addition to running the offense, Polk covered the field defensively and logged eight tackles.

The final quarter of the game became quite messy as both teams struggled to hold onto the ball. No points were scored other than a late 20-yard touchdown by Minatare, giving the Indians a 26-0 win over the Storm.

Creek Valley plays at home on Thursday against Crawford. Minatare stays on the road, travling to play at Banner County.
