Officials: 15,000 acres burned by Bovee Fire

HALSEY, Neb. -- Over 15,000 acres have been burned by a fire in central Nebraska.

According to Nebraska National Forests and Grasslands, firefighters continued to battle throughout the night, with additional resources en route.

The village of Halsey was among the areas evacuated by the Bovee Fire.

Multiple large and single-engine air tankers have been dispatched, and an incident management team has been ordered.

By Sunday night, resources from South Dakota State Wildland Fire and the Black Hills National Forest were also on the way, including a dozer.

The wildfire at Bessey Ranger District was moving quickly on Sunday, according to authorities, noting that the fire apparently jumped Highway 2.

Officials said the fire was likely caused by humans. Campgrounds in the area had been evacuated.
