SIDNEY – The Lady Raiders were on fire from the opening tip, while the Red Raiders rallied to pick up wins over Gering Tuesday at the Cabela’s Athletic Facility. The Lady Raiders scorched the nets for 29 first-quarter points on the way to dismantling the Lady Bulldogs 74-16 as the Red Raiders overcame a 6-point halftime deficit to defeat Gering 73-59. Both teams improved to 7-0 on the season.

The Lady Raiders set the tone just eight seconds into the game when junior Kayla Westby hit the first of seven Sidney three pointers in the first quarter. Senior Karsyn Leeling drilled four from long range as Westby added her second and senior Chloe Ahrens hit the first of her three from behind the arc, as Sidney shot 65% from the floor in the first eight minutes to take a 29-6 lead after one.

Sidney defense was equally as sharp, holding Gering to single digits in every quarter. The Lady Raiders forced 24 Gering turnovers and held the Bulldogs to 16% from the floor on 6 for 37 shooting.

Sidney had ten players score with three in double figures. Karsyn Leeling paced the Lady Raiders with 14 points while Kayla Westby had 11 points and Jordan DeNovellis chipped in 10 points.

The boy’s game was a physical battle that was tight most of the night. The Red Raiders held an 18-16 lead after the first period only to see Gering rebound and take a 36-30 lead into the locker room at the half. Sidney offense started to gel in the third period as the Red Raiders tied the game at 53-53 through three quarters. Sidney’s turned up their defensive intensity as the offense found it’s stride in the final period, outscoring the Bulldogs 20-6 to secure the win.

Senior Isak Doty led three Red Raiders in double figures with 23 points. Junior Reid Fiscus and sophomore Alek Doty each tallied 14 points while senior Luke Uhlir added nine.

Sidney wraps up its pre-holiday schedule on Thursday with a trip to Holdrege and a match up with the Dusters. Junior Varsity games begin at 3:00 p.m. MT.
