NACO exec meets with county commissioners

SIDNEY -- The Nebraska Association of County Officials executive director visited with the Cheyenne County Commissioners recently.
Jon Cannon, executive director of Nebraska Association of County Officials, met with the Cheyenne County Commissioners May 6 to update the county on recent activities within the organization. He said as a membership organization, and as such they work to stay in touch with the members.
"Just wanted to let you know what we're up to, and appreciate the opportunity to visit you guys. We feel that we owe it to you to come out and tell you what we're up to. I told the staff we're going to go out to every county and attend at least one more meeting every year. But that, that's not it. If you guys need us out here for something, let us know and we'll be here," Cannon said.
He said in the State House, property tax reform is one of the big discussions. He said Gov. Jim Pillen will be attending the NACO budget workshop on June 12. He said whomever is attending the workshop should include the person involved in preparing the budget.
"What we would really recommend if you're going to attend the budget workshop is that probably someone from the board, but who is preparing the budget," he said.
He said after the budget workshop, they will hold a county board workshop. He said the workshop will address topics including legislation and ARPA.
