Bridgeport dominates Morrill 52-24 behind Weibert’s stellar performance
BRIDGEPORT - The Bridgeport football team scored on their first six possession to secure their fourth consecutive win, 52-24, over Morrill in Bridgeport on Friday afternoon.
Junior quarterback Nikolas Weibert accounted for half of Bridgeport’s eight touchdowns. Weibert threw for two scores, rushed for one and added a defensive touchdown with a pick-six. He completed 4 of 8 passes for 116 yards and rushed for 24 more, totaling 140 yards of total offense.
Sophomore Landon Dean made the most of his limited touches, hauling in both of Weibert's touchdown passes for a total of 59 yards on two receptions. Junior Logan Levick led the ground attack with 65 yards and two touchdowns on four carries, while sophomore Blake Collins contributed 60 yards on five carries.
The Bulldogs' balanced offense was on full display, racking up 350 total yards—230 on the ground and 120 through the air. Defensively, Bridgeport came up big as well, forcing four turnovers to keep Morrill at bay.
For the Lions, senior Ryder Green rushed for for 127 yards and passing for 52, scoring two of Morrill’s three touchdowns. He also recorded an interception on defense. Junior Dravin Brackin contributed with 79 receiving yards on seven catches and added 52 yards rushing on 20 carries, finishing with 131 yards of total offense.
Morrill fell to 0-6 on the season, accumulating 301 total yards—223 rushing and 78 passing. The Lions will look for their first win when they host Perkins County (4-2) next Friday.
Meanwhile, Bridgeport improves to 4-2 and will travel to Hemingford to take on the 4-1 Bobcats in a key matchup next Friday.
