BRUSH, Colo. - A Brush man was arrested last week on two warrants accusing him of sexually assaulting juvenile boys following a months-long investigation by the Brush Police Department and the 13th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

Police said the investigation began on April 7 after two Safe2Tell reports — an anonymous reporting system — alleged concerning behavior by Luis Cardenas, 40, of Brush. Detectives interviewed multiple witnesses and potential victims and conducted digital forensic reviews over several months.

According to the department, two boys later came forward and reported they were victimized by Cardenas in separate incidents, one occurring last year and another this year. Investigators separated the case into two filings.

Two arrest warrants were issued for Cardenas this week: one for sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust, and a second warrant for sexual assault on a child and sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.

Brush officers located and arrested Cardenas on Nov. 26. He was advised of the charges on Nov. 28 and received a $500,000 cash or surety bond in each case, totaling $1 million.

Police said they believe additional victims may not have come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Brush Police Department dispatch at 970-842-5021 and request Sgt. Price or Officer Dabbs.

All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
