Nebraska man sentenced in Kimball District Court for issuing bad checks

KIMBALL -- A Nebraska man found guilty of issuing bad checks was sentenced in Kimball District Court Tuesday afternoon.
Twenty-one-year-old Izac Harms has been facing similar charges in multiple counties, including Scottsbluff and Morrill.
He was charged in Kimball County in October, later pleading no contest to Class 1 Misdemeanor Issue no-account check ($500-$1,500).
Harms has a total of $2,640.45 to repay the victims in this case, as well as additional restitution agreements with businesses in other counties.
Judge Derek Weimer sentenced Harms to 10 days' time served and 18 months of probation with the main stipulation being that he pays his restitution.
“My main concern is the repayment of the victim in this matter; that is the most critical circumstance. These businesses did not deserve to have money taken from them,” Weimer said.
County Attorney Mark Kovarik recommended a term of probation in hopes that he can maintain employment to pay his restitution.
Harms’ attorney Stacy Bach stated that he wants to do right by the businesses he has wronged.
“The whole thing is everybody just wants to get paid and that’s what he wants to do, and he can’t do that if he is sitting in jail ... under these circumstances, we ask for a term of probation,” she said.
