Chadron's Dr. Julie Downing Honored with Friend of NSASSP Award

SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. — Nebraska State Association of Secondary School Principals has named Julie Downing, Ed.D., of Chadron as the recipient of the 2025 Friend of NSASSP Award.
Downing serves as professional learning coordinator for Educational Service Unit 13 and was honored for her leadership and continued support of secondary school administrators and public education across Nebraska.
The Friend of NSASSP Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding leadership and unselfish service to the association while contributing to quality education at both the local and state levels. The selection committee cited Downing’s work in instructional leadership, professional development and systemwide improvement, particularly in Region 5.
Throughout her career, Downing has supported teachers and administrators through the development of instructional and evaluation models, mentorship of new and aspiring administrators, and the facilitation of professional learning opportunities. Her work with the S.E.E.D. model has helped school districts establish sustainable systems focused on continuous improvement.
Colleagues noted that Downing frequently goes beyond her formal responsibilities, offering guidance and support to school leaders as they navigate the demands of the principalship. NSASSP said her collaboration and commitment to public education have had a lasting impact on school communities across the state.
Downing was formally recognized and presented with a plaque during the annual NSASSP State Conference.
