Bridgeport wins two more WTC titles
Both the boys and girls won the conference tournament on Saturday night
The Bridgeport Lady Bulldogs have had a dominating season that landed them as the #1 seed in this weekend's Western Trails Conference Tournament. The status put the Bulldogs through to the semi-final round on Friday where they beat Mitchell 70-24 and moved on to the title game.
In the title match, Bridgeport met Kimball who had upset Morrill a night earlier for the honor to play in the title game. While the heart and determination that brought Kimball to the game shined through, it was not a match for the high paced, full court, physical play of Bridgeport. Kimball was able to score enough from the foul line to keep them in the game early, but Bridgeport would pull away by halftime. The Bulldogs won their 6th consecutive WTC Championship with a score of 57-23.
The boys game put Bridgeport, #2 seed because of loses at schools like Ogallala and Alliance, against the #1 seed Kimball. Kimball had edged out Mitchell in overtime on Friday night for the chance to be in Saturday's championship contest. Bridgeport beat Morrill, 87-4, and Hemingford, 83-39, to make it to Saturday and a chance at the trophy.
Bridgeport jumped out to an early lead, and played a clean game that kept the Longhorns away from the free-throw line. Despite losing center Landon Dean to injury for an extended period during the game, the bulldogs were able to stay out in front and took it out of Kimball's reach early in the second half. Bridgeport won their third consecutive WTC title, 65-33.
