FREMONT, Neb. — A police report is providing new details about a pedestrian crash during an anti-ICE student-led protest outside Fremont High School on Jan. 29.

According to the Fremont Police Department, the crash occurred around 2:28 p.m. on North Lincoln Avenue and is classified as a hit-and-run.

Investigators say a red 2015 Chevrolet Equinox had stopped in the roadway. The driver exited to confront someone he believed had attempted to damage the vehicle, then returned and began driving north.

The SUV struck a female pedestrian who was standing in front of the vehicle holding a political sign and facing it, according to the report. She fell off the right side of the SUV.

Police say the driver left the scene without rendering aid but was located a short time later. Officers said the driver told them he left because he feared harm from protesters.

The pedestrian was transported to Methodist Fremont Health with a possible lower-leg injury, according to the report.

Police said a juvenile driver was cited for leaving the scene of a personal injury crash. An adult woman and five juveniles were also cited in connection with the protest on charges that include criminal mischief, theft, obstruction and disorderly conduct.
