Sidney, Scottsbluff earn top seeds in respective district tournaments
District basketball tips off Monday. Sidney, Alliance, Gering and Scottsbluff all begin semifinal action with state tournament berths on the line later this week.

SIDNEY, Neb. — Several western Nebraska girls basketball programs will compete in district championship games this week with trips to the Nebraska School Activities Association State Basketball Tournament on the line.
District tournament play begins earlier in the week for Class B teams, with championship games scheduled for Saturday. Winners from each district advance to the state tournament March 4-7 in Lincoln.
In Class B, Sidney (17-5) is the top seed in District B-5 and awaits the winner of No. 4 Omaha Mercy (9-14) and No. 5 Ralston (2-21). The Lady Raiders are scheduled to play their semifinal Wednesday at 5 p.m. CT in Lexington on 987 The Big Boy. On the opposite side of the bracket, No. 3 Seward (11-10) faces No. 2 Gretna (13-9), with the district championship set for Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
Scottsbluff (15-8) earned the top seed in District B-7 and hosts No. 4 McCook (8-14) in a semifinal matchup. No. 3 Lincoln Standing Bear (9-13) travels to No. 2 Blair (16-6) in the other semifinal. The winners will meet for the district title.
Alliance (5-19) is the No. 4 seed in District B-1 and opened play against No. 5 Plattsmouth (5-17). With a win, the Bulldogs would advance to face top-seeded Norris (20-3). No. 3 Adams Central (12-9) meets No. 2 Waverly (12-9) on the opposite side of the bracket. The district final is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
Gering (10-14) entered District B-6 as the No. 3 seed and faced No. 2 Omaha Skutt Catholic (13-10) in a semifinal in Hastings. No. 1 Beatrice (16-6) sits atop the other side of the bracket. The district championship is slated for Saturday at 2 p.m. CT.
In Class C1, Ogallala will host the District C1-4 final on Feb. 27. The No. 4 seed Indians will face No. 13 Louisville with a state berth at stake.
Bridgeport advances to the District C1-7 championship game and will travel to face No. 7 Fort Calhoun on Feb. 27. News Channel Nebraska will carry the game on 987 The Big Boy.
In Class D2, Potter-Dix will compete in the District D2-1 final against top-seeded Dundy County Stratton. The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. MT on Feb. 27 at Dundy County Stratton on 1043 KIMB.
Other D2 district finals on Feb. 27 include Hay Springs hosting Archangels Catholic in District D2-8 and Silver Lake hosting Paxton in District D2-7.
