Larry was born September 28, 1937, in Chadron, NE, to Henry “Bill” and Mona Jones. He grew up in Chadron, where he spent much of his youth working alongside his father in several family ventures, including a grocery store, a bowling alley, and the family farm. These early experiences helped shape the strong work ethic and resourcefulness that would remain with him throughout his life. After graduating from Chadron Prep in 1957, Larry enlisted in the Army National Guard the following year and served for several years. On June 3, 1962, Larry married Patricia Brown in Bridgeport, NE, and the couple made their home in Sidney. Together they built a life centered on family and community, welcoming three children between 1967 and 1973.

Larry developed a deep passion for aviation, becoming a student pilot in May 1966. By December 1967, he had earned his private pilot’s license. Flying remained a treasured part of his life until his final logged flight on September 3, 1975. Professionally, Larry worked as the manager of the local Goodyear store. When the company asked him to relocate to Denver, CO, he chose to remain in Sidney so his children could grow up close to family and community. He later worked for Jerry’s Tire and Wrecking Service and also a machinist at Convert-A-Ball. After Patricia’s passing in 2001, Larry continued working to stay active. In 2004, he met his dear friend, Edith Christensen of Potter, Ne. He officially retired in 2011 at the age of 73.

In retirement, Larry and Edith enjoyed traveling throughout the western states to visit family and friends. They especially cherished time with their grandchildren and were familiar faces at senior dances, often traveling to neighboring communities each Saturday to enjoy an evening of music and dancing. For the last nine years of his life, Larry lived at Pole Creek Estates in Sidney, where he greatly appreciated the staff who helped make it feel like home. Larry was a man of many interests. An early member and officer of the local Elks Lodge, he was known for his entrepreneurial spirit and creative ideas, often pursuing small ventures selling products such as heaters and air purifiers. He enjoyed working with his hands and took great pride in keeping an immaculate yard, house, and garden. A perfectionist by nature, he also found great joy in sharing the vegetables he grew with family and friends.

Larry is survived by his children: Bradley Jones of Lincoln, NE; Brian and wife Angela Jones of Black Diamond, WA; and Beth and husband Joshua Danielson of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by his sister, Gwen and husband Lance Scherbarth of Chadron, NE; his grandchildren, Kristen and husband Cody Meredith of Concord, CA; Kyle Leisey of Rio Rancho, NM; Emily and Hannah Jones of Black Diamond, WA; and Aliece, Emma, Isaac, and Ethan Danielson of Las Vegas, NV; six great-grandchildren; his dear friend, Edith Christensen; and many extended family members, including Suze Jones, nine nieces, five nephews, numerous great-nieces and great-nephews, and many close friends.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patricia; his parents, Bill and Mona Jones; his sisters, Joyce and her husband Lyle Allen and Ricky Peterson; and his brother, Wayne Jones.
