Ashland-Greenwood tops Auburn 67-52, earns return trip to C-1 finals

LINCOLN — Ashland-Greenwood used a dominant second half to defeat Auburn 67-52 in the Class C-1 state semifinals on Friday.

The victory puts the #2 Bluejays in the state championship game for the fourth time in the last five years. Ashland-Greenwood won the title each of the years they made the finals.

The loss is just the second of the season for the #3 Bulldogs. Auburn will play #1 Ogallala in the third place game on Saturday.

Auburn controlled the game for much of the first half and led 33-32 at the break. Derek Tonjes and Cooper Westerhold took over in the second half and scored a combined 24 points to lead the Bluejays to the 15-point win.

Ashland-Greenwood will play #4 Douglas County West in the Class C-1 finals.
