Potter CarBowl Draws People to Town for Variety of Events
The Potter CarBowl is back and better than ever for its sixth iteration in 2020.
The Potter CarBowl is back and better than ever for its sixth iteration in 2020. What once was just a car show to draw people to town to support their annual melodrama has grown into a much larger festival in a short span.
"With the renovations in the Legion Hall, we don't have a melodrama this year and the Car Show is standing alone," CarBowl organizer and volunteer B.J. Juelfs said. "Just extremely appreciative of everybody that comes out and takes some time to visit our community that we love so much and enjoy the day with us."
Since its inception, the CarBowl has added a bowling tournament, craft show, bar B Q competition, pinewood derby races and more. With many other events, like county fairs, canceled this year, the CarBowl took advantage.
"To come into a town with 330-some people and see almost just that many cars in town is a pretty impressive thing to see," Juelfs said.
A new event for 2020 was a BMX show. The group called NoWear BMX came all the way out from Unadilla, a small town between Lincoln and Nebraska City, to show off their skills. It's the first time they’ve performed in front of a crowd since September last year.
"With everything going on we've missed a lot of shows so we feel very fortunate that we're still able to perform here today at the Potter CarBowl," NoWear BMX manager Karl Hinkley said.
It's just another event to help people come out and proves that at the CarBowl, there’s a little something for everyone.
"This is epic," Hinkley said. "We have a lot of guys on our team that are super big car buffs. They're just excited about performing and then getting over there and seeing everything this event has to offer. What just a great way for everybody to get together, have some fun in the sun and show off really cool stuff."
